Soft Seating

A couch in front of a video wall in reception is common, but couches and other soft seating have made their way into conferencing areas as well, and we like the implications.

Open collaboration AV solutions New York

We are not a furniture company, although we do have amazing partners that are. When designing any AV space, however, we do work with the interior designer and client to make recommendations on seating arrangements and types of seating to ensure the client can fully utilize tech in the space and amplify the user experience. One trend we love: soft seating in spaces outside reception & lobbies. A couch in front of a video wall in reception is common, but couches and other soft seating have made their way into conferencing areas as well, and we like the implications.

First off, what is "soft seating"? Soft seating is a broad category of furniture that includes cushioned or upholstered furniture, such as sofas, armchairs, and modular seating. It's designed to be comfortable and ergonomic, and comes in a variety of styles and colors. Read our take on soft seating to enhance collaboration:

Sight Lines. Display-centric collaboration areas with soft seating requires a detailed look at sight lines. Determining the best sight lines for an audience seated on couches and lounge chairs viewing a wall-mounted display involves key factors such as viewing distances, room layout, display size & height, viewing zones, and use cases.

Drop the Formality. Soft seating in a conference space as an alternative to traditional chairs creates a less formal setting, creating informal spaces where employees can gather for impromptu meetings, brainstorming sessions, or casual conversations. These spaces foster a more collaborative and creative environment, leading to spontaneous idea-sharing and problem-solving.

Welcome Message. Our work environments now include spaces with home-like atmospheres. A boardroom with conventional seating & set up is expected but having soft seating in an open collaboration space makes an office feel less rigid and more inviting. When employees and visitors feel relaxed in an environment, it can lead to better interaction and enthusiasm.

Different Work Modes. Adding soft seating options allows employees to choose where they want to meet, whether someone prefers a comfortable spot for collaborative work or a more formal space for critical conversations. Giving employees flexibility benefits and acknowledges different work and meeting styles.

Incorporating soft seating into an office design in collaboration & conferencing spaces can make a significant difference in creating a more dynamic, comfortable, and productive workplace.
